What is Biltong?Biltong is a traditional South African dried meat snack that’s full of flavor. Unlike jerky, it’s made from thick strips of meat that are cured with salt, vinegar, pepper, and coriander, then air-dried to perfection. At Gaia’s Pantry, our premium biltong is crafted from high-quality, kosher-certified beef, giving you that authentic South African taste with every bite. Perfect for snacking, braais, or adding to your favorite dishes!

What is Drywors / Droëwors?Drywors, or Droëwors, is a traditional South African air-dried sausage made from high-quality beef. The beef is ground, seasoned with a blend of spices like salt, pepper, coriander, clove, and nutmeg, and then traditionally stuffed into sheep casings and hung to dry. At Gaia’s Pantry, we offer a premium, kosher-certified version of this South African delicacy, perfect for snacking or as part of your next braai. It’s a must-have for any meat lover!

What is the difference between air-dried and dehydrated meat?Air-dried meat, like our biltong and drywors, is prepared in a controlled environment without the use of heat, which helps retain more of the meat’s nutritional values. Unlike dehydrated meat, which is subjected to heat, air-dried meat undergoes a slower process, allowing proteins to break down gradually and naturally, creating a tender interior and slightly crusty exterior. This low-and-slow method ensures that the meat retains its nutrients and flavors, without the need for sugars or artificial preservatives. At Gaia’s Pantry, we offer air-dried products that maintain their natural, wholesome goodness, giving you the true South African experience.
-
What is the shelf life?At Gaia’s Pantry, we recommend consuming our air-dried products, like biltong and drywors, within six months for optimal taste and freshness, when stored properly. As these products still retain a bit of moisture, it's important to keep them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and temperature fluctuations. Exposure to extreme conditions can cause condensation inside the package, potentially leading to mold. For best results, store your products in an airtight container to preserve their flavor and quality.
